‘My work explores the relationship between people, place and the ever-changing forces of the natural world. I am drawn to coastal environments, particularly the landscapes of West Cork, where shifting weather, light and sea create a constant sense of movement and atmosphere. Through expressive marks and layered paint, I try to capture not only what a place looks like, but how it feels to experience it.

In the series Gusts, I focus on the sea and the wind as powerful, unpredictable forces. The sails become a point of connection between human presence and the elements — catching the wind, responding to its direction and carrying us across the water. ‘Where the wind Carries’ us captures the quiet power of sailing through a vast, restless ocean. The cool blues, silvery whites, and expressive layers of paint create a sense of movement, while the tall sails stand boldly against the dramatic sky’.

Sinead Barrett is a Cork-based artist who divides her time between Cork city and the coast of West Cork. After returning to college eight years ago to study art, she has since developed a quiet, reflective practice rooted in drawing, painting, papermaking and experimentation. Deeply inspired by the sea and coastal landscapes around her, her work explores how memory, emotion and lived experience shape our connection to place.  She is the programme manager with Sample Studios and is a board member of Cnoc Buí Community Arts Centre, she maintains an active artistic practice. Her work is held in public and private collections.
