Sinéad Barrett is a Cork based artist known for her bold use of colour and texture. Painting in acrylic with a thick impasto style, she blends abstract and realistic elements to capture the energy of the sea, the weather, and the atmosphere of coastal life.
Better Winds is inspired by dragon racing in Glandore, this acrylic captures the rush of wind, sea spray, and shared memories of the coast. The dragon, is a sleek 30-foot boat which glides through Barrett’s thick impasto strokes, where movement and light take centre stage. Rather than a literal scene, the painting is about the feeling of wind and sea spray, the rush of the race, and the memories tied to place and community. Its layered textures and movement on the canvas bring those fleeting moments vividly to life.
The Gusts series as a whole is Barrett’s way of celebrating light, movement, and our connection to the elements. Each work offers its own unique expression of that theme.
